S.A.L.S.A CLUB HOSTS CINCO DE MAYO CELEBRATION FOR THE COMMUNITY

To commemorate the historical significance of the Mexican army's victory over France at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862 during the Franco-Mexican War, St. Ed's S.A.L.S.A Club hosted a Cinco de Mayo celebration for the school community to enjoy on Thursday afternoon. From tasting authentic Mexican cuisine and enjoying Hispanic music, to playing games and inviting brave Edsmen and faculty members to partake in a hot pepper eating contest, students, faculty and staff enjoyed a fiesta altogether. This annual celebration, mainly celebrated by Mexican Americans, has become a festival for celebrating Mexican pride. More than an Americanized celebration, Cinco de Mayo is rooted in history and is a means to celebrate Mexican culture and values. A special thanks goes to Spanish teacher Gina Turella, St. Ed's S.A.L.S.A Club, and the Language Acquisitions department for hosting this special mid-week celebration for our community.
